Simple Marinara Sauce

It doesn’t get easier than this! Here is an economical way to make pasta sauce and you get to choose what goes into it!

1 can (28 ounces) tomato sauce, or 3 1/2 cups crushed tomatoes

6 fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced

1 tsp dried oregano

2 garlic cloves, minced


PER SERVING: 67 calories; 0.5 g fat; 0.1 g saturated fat; 6.9% calories from fat; 0 mg cholesterol; 2.8 g protein; 15.3 g carbohydrate; 8.5 g sugar; 3.1 g fiber; 1040 mg sodium; 34 mg calcium; 2.2 mg iron; 14.6 mg vitamin C; 449 mcg beta-carotene; 4.2 mg vitamin E; 30069 mcg lycopene

Methods/steps
Combine all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan. Cook and stir over low heat for about 10 minutes, until bubbly.

Stored in a covered container, leftover Simple Marinara will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator or up to 1 month in the freezer.
Additional Tips
You could also add sliced mushrooms, or diced onion, carrots or bell peppers.
