Pesto Hummus makes a fantastic spread on your favorite bread, dip for chips, and even a pesto sauce for pasta. And it is super easy to make. Using walnuts creates a creamy texture without the heavy use of oil in traditional pesto.

Yields: 3 dozen spreads of about 1 T

2 cups of soaked or canned Garbanzo Beans (chickpeas)

2 cups of fresh Basil or Basil Sprouts

1/2 cup of Walnuts

2 Tablespoons of Nutritional yeast

1 Teaspoon of Onion Powder

1 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/4 cup of water

(Water varies with the wetness of the bean. Add more if the mixture does not blend well or the consistency is too dry.)

Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until the basil is finely chopped.

Stop and scrape down the sides of the food processor as needed.

Additional Tips

To make a pesto sauce, blend two parts of pesto hummus with one part water and stir into your favorite pasta.
