Tamari Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
This delicious high-protein snack is very easy to make at home. Just two ingredients: tamari soy sauce and pumpkin seeds or pepitas.
Ingredients
1 lb (454 grams) of pumpkin seeds or pepitas
¼ cup (60 ml) of Tamari soy sauce
Preparation
Pour the pumpkin seeds into a bowl and measure in the soy sauce.
Stir thoroughly together
Be sure to coat all the seeds.
Pour onto a baking pan. Parchment paper helps with cleanup and prevents sticking. Spread the seeds as evenly as possible.
Place in an oven at 350 degrees F (175C) for 10 minutes
Remove, stir thoroughly, and spread evenly back on the pan.
Reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees F (150C) and bake for another 10 minutes.
You may need a couple of minutes more or less, so check the pumpkin seeds a couple of minutes before the completion time. When they look dried out, remove them and let them cool.
When cool, store in an airtight container.
Additional Tips
Pepitas are a variety of seeds that are green and smaller, whereas most pumpkin seed varieties are white or cream-colored.
You can also use this same technique for squash seeds. Fresh pumpkin seeds may take a bit longer, so sample regularly when roasting. A lower temperature and longer time may reduce the chance of burning them.
